At Thames Dental Care, we advise seeing patients either every 6 months, or annually depending on the amount of previous dental treatment they have had. At the examination appointment, we comprehensively check the whole mouth, including not only the teeth, but also the soft tissues, gums, palate and jaws. This ensures we can pick up on any potential problems early, from common problems like gum disease to rare conditions such as oral cancer.
Regular examinations enable us to lower our patients’ overall risk of dental disease. We recommend regular visits for scaling and polishing to reduce the bacterial load in the mouth, which can significantly lower the risk of gum disease as well as reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems. This can often be carried out at the same visit as the examination.
